Let us introduce Antonia who teaches programming for children on our platform. We asked her some questions about her teaching experience.

Q: How long do you teach?

A: I’ve been a teacher for nine years. For the first three years, I worked as a primary tutor. After finishing my master’s degree, I worked as a robotics tutor for another three years before settling down to work as an online coding tutor.

Q: How did you decide to become a tutor?

A: I was highly into primary education and computer science when I was 18 years old. My final choice was to major in computer science, but it didn’t work out because I didn’t enjoy the maths and science courses required for that degree. As a result, I decided to alter my career and pursue primary education. I later earned a master’s degree in robotics technology education and also a diploma in software engineering. I am now teaching coding to children, which is my dream after seven years of study.

Q: Do you have experience teaching offline?

A: I’ve been an offline teacher for three years. I specifically taught at primary schools where I supported students in all subject areas. Although it was a positive experience, my major objective was to teach programming, so I sought out an alternative to my nation’s traditional institutions. I had the good fortune to work with Lego Robotics and C++ in a private institute for three years after receiving my master’s degree.

Q: How did you come to teaching online?

A: Due to how distant it was from people’s minds in my nation, I never learned to teach online. After receiving my Software Engineering Diploma, I realized that many lecturers in the UK were offering their courses online (due to Covid), and I knew that this would be my chance to fulfill a long-held desire.

Q: What would you like to advise beginner tutors?

A: After years of experience, I am certain that in order to teach, one must already be a “teacher.” I’ve seen people from other disciplines attempt to teach, and the majority of the time they failed because the goal of teaching is to get to know the person on the other side of the screen in addition to delivering the lesson. A teacher is also a parent, a friend, a funny person, and someone who aids in the learning of others in various ways.

Furthermore, education should be creative. The primary goal of a teacher is to try to get a student to retain even one thing they stated in class. If you are successful in doing that, the road ahead will be incredible for both you and the student.
